The Savin Hill Station project is a complete replacement of an existing rapid transit station on the MBTA Red Line. Deteriorated platform and headhouse structures, dating from the 1920s, were demolished, and replaced with new structures that provide modern accommodations, including fully accessible entrance and waiting areas. The new brick and glass headhouse, with a vaulted metal roof, signifies the station’s importance in the daily life of the neighborhood. In the evening hours, the glazed bridge which provides access to the platform level, marks the station in dramatic fashion from the adjacent Southeast Expressway.
