Stull and Lee, Inc., working with TLCR Associates and Albert Kahn Associates in Detroit, was commissioned to provide full A/E services to the Detroit Public Schools for a prototype for two new elementary schools, the Heilmann and Priest Schools. The estimated construction cost of each 95,000 square foot building is approximately $11.7 million.

Each school accommodates 750 pupils. The schools have been designed following a “small school concept” as a pair of two-story classroom “houses” connected by a one-story admin and support building. The buildings’ distinctive blocks provide academic space, administrative/support services, and specialty instruction and multipurpose spaces. The facilities also house conference rooms, itinerant teaching spaces, small group or team gathering spaces, a media center, and a gymnasium and cafetorium.
